Tourism Minister Champions cultural legacy, unveils 2024 ‘December in GH’ calendar

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has unveiled its 2024 “December in GH” events calendar, marking the beginning of what promises to be a culturally rich and vibrant festive season.

Held at the historic Castle Gardens in Osu, the launch continues the momentum of the Beyond The Return initiative, which has established Ghana as a leading destination for culture, entertainment, and tourism since its inception in 2019.

The event attracted notable figures from the tourism sector, cultural advocates, and members of the diaspora, all keen to engage with Ghana’s rich cultural offerings. Speaking at the event, Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Andrew Agyapa Mercer, highlighted the strategic importance of the “December in GH” initiative in positioning Ghana as a top destination during the festive season.

Minister Mercer emphasized that the initiative is more than just a series of events—it represents Ghana’s commitment to celebrating its cultural legacy on the global stage. He praised the GTA, particularly its CEO, Akwasi Agyeman, for their tireless efforts in promoting Ghana as a hub of cultural excellence. The Minister also expressed optimism for a peaceful election process on December 7, noting that a stable and proud nation is essential for the success of such cultural initiatives.

Echoing these sentiments, Deputy CEO of General Services for the GTA, Ben Anane Nsiah, reflected on the significant impact the “December in GH” initiative has had since its launch. He noted how Ghana has transformed into a global entertainment destination during the final quarter of the year, drawing visitors from around the world.

GTA CEO Akwasi Agyeman detailed the 2024 events calendar, which features 64 events carefully curated from 90 submissions. The diverse lineup includes cultural exhibitions, educational programs, nightlife, recreation, and community service activities, all designed to showcase Ghana’s heritage, adventure, cuisine, and fashion. Agyeman lauded the collaborative efforts that went into creating the calendar and encouraged both locals and international visitors to participate, thereby enhancing Ghana’s global cultural appeal.

The 2024 “December in GH” calendar is poised to deliver an unforgettable cultural experience, reinforcing Ghana’s status as a must-visit destination and a beacon of African heritage and innovation.
