GACL welcomes Virgin Atlantic’s return

GHANA Airports Company Limited (GACL) has welcomed Virgin Atlantic’s decision to resume operations in Ghana starting in May 2025. The airline, which will be the 25th to operate out of Kotoka International Airport (KIA), will offer daily flights using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

The return of Virgin Atlantic is a significant endorsement of Ghana’s aviation industry, reinforcing the country’s position as a preferred aviation hub and leader in airport services in West Africa.

GACL’s Managing Director, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, expressed excitement on behalf of the Board, Management, and Staff, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Virgin Atlantic back to Ghana as the 25th international airline to operate at KIA. We look forward to collaborating with Virgin Atlantic to ensure a seamless launch of their operations and continued facilitation at the airport.”

Mrs. Opare also announced plans to optimize the use of Terminal 2 at Kotoka International Airport due to the increasing number of airlines operating out of Ghana.

By relocating some airlines to Terminal 2, GACL aims to decongest Terminal 3, reduce long queues, and enhance the travel experience for both passengers and airlines. She indicated that further details would be shared with the public once stakeholder engagements are completed.

Virgin Atlantic’s return is expected to offer travellers greater connectivity options, linking passengers from Ghana to various global destinations.
