GSE equips over 100,000 youths with financial literacy skills

FOR the past 15 years, the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) has through the Young Investors Network (YIN) and other partners equipped over 100,000 students in over 200 schools with financial literacy skills.
The focus of the training has been on students from Senior High Schools SHS and Tertiary institutions across the country.
In 2023, the GSE, with the support of the Central Securities Depository roped in and engaged over 15,000 students across 15 schools in seven regions of Ghana through one-on-one contact.
Speaking at the launch of the 2024 edition of the literacy programme, on Friday, Managing Director of the GSE, Ms Abena Amoah expressed the Exchange’s preparedness to “escalate further, the educational outreach to touch over 50,000 students from over 80 tertiary and second cycle schools.”
The theme for this year’s programme is ‘preparing the youth for tomorrow’s financial future.’
“We want them to participate actively in the three flagship programmes of the GSE, which are the capital market quiz, the investment education programme and the stock pitch competition,” she indicated.
She reiterated the GSE’s belief that, “financial literacy is a basic human right; every single one of us should understand what it means to open an account, whether it’s a mobile money account, a bank account, an investment account, every one of us should understand what it means to buy an insurance product, we must understand what it means to contribute to a pension scheme.”
The YIN, established some 10 years ago is a financial education organization formed with a commitment to educating the youth in financial literacy, business skills and dedicated to preparing generational investors. Its mission is to inspire the youth to be outstanding investors.
Poised to ensure every Ghanaian becomes financially literate, the GSE partnered with the Young Investors Network, the Central Securities Depository and other financial institutions to bring financial literacy to the doorsteps of the youth in their schools across the country.
