AUCC’s commitment to transformative education : A beacon of hope for Ghana’s future

The African University College of Communications (AUCC) has marked its 21st Congregation with a focus on the theme “Leadership and Integrity in Nation Building.”

The event highlighted the university’s dedication to producing ethical leaders poised to drive societal progress.

Leadership Rooted in Integrity

AUCC President, Professor Abeku Blankson, emphasized the university’s mission to instill values of integrity, responsibility, and service in its graduates. Speaking at the university, 21st Congregation, Professor Blankson stressed the critical role of ethical leadership in shaping Ghana’s future.

“In these times, leadership with integrity is not just important; it is crucial for nation-building,” he remarked, urging the graduating class of 462 to embody these principles in their personal and professional lives.

The ceremony’s theme reflected AUCC’s commitment to integrity as a cornerstone of its academic and extracurricular activities. Professor Blankson reminded the graduates that their education goes beyond personal success, serving as a catalyst for societal transformation.

“This institution prepares leaders who navigate the complexities of the modern world while staying true to principles of honesty, equity, and service,” he said, encouraging the graduates to remain steadfast in their values when faced with ethical challenges.

Advancing Leadership Excellence

AUCC’s recent achievements underscore its focus on leadership development. Initiatives like the Second HAEC/HBCU Research Conference and the Fourth Pan-African Heritage Museum Conference, held in collaboration with UNESCO, demonstrate the university’s dedication to integrating academic excellence with practical solutions for real-world challenges.

A major milestone celebrated during the ceremony was the imminent Presidential Charter, set to solidify AUCC’s position as a leader in higher education. Professor Blankson described the charter as a recognition of the university’s efforts to develop leaders of integrity.

“This charter is a validation of our commitment to academic excellence and our role in shaping ethical leaders for the future,” he said.

Inspiring Messages for Graduates

Guest speaker Justice Nana Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong, Director of the Ghana School of Law, urged the graduates to maintain a strong moral compass in a rapidly evolving world. “Justice, equity, and service must guide your actions,” he said, emphasizing the importance of ethical leadership.

Valedictorian William Gyasi, honoured with three awards for academic excellence, encouraged his peers to use their education for societal betterment. He also called for peace and unity ahead of Ghana’s 2024 General Elections, highlighting the importance of integrity in civic participation.

“Our achievements must benefit our communities and the world,” Gyasi said, reminding the graduating class of their potential to inspire positive change.

A Legacy of Impact

Since its establishment, AUCC has graduated over 4,400 students, many of whom are leaders in public and private sectors globally. With new postgraduate programmes, including an MSc in Digital Communication and Data Analytics, the university is positioning itself as a hub for developing innovative and ethical leaders.

Professor Blankson concluded the ceremony with a message of hope, urging graduates to lead with courage and honor. “Leadership with integrity is the foundation for building a better future,” he said.

Transformative Education

Ms. Adjoa Duodu, AUCC’s Head of University Relations, praised the institution’s achievements during the event. “The successes we’ve celebrated today are a testament to AUCC’s commitment to transformative education that empowers individuals to make meaningful contributions to society,” she said.

Looking ahead, Ms. Duodu reaffirmed AUCC’s mission to nurture future leaders, innovators, and changemakers, ensuring the university remains a beacon of ethical leadership.

AUCC’s steadfast focus on integrity and leadership continues to produce graduates who are ready to inspire change and shape a better world.
