UCC alumni extend support to Franciscan Sisters of Mary Centre of Hope

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) Biological Science Alumni, in collaboration with the Physical Science Class of 2006, brought hope and assistance to the Franciscan Sisters of Mary Centre of Hope in Kaneshie, Accra, as part of their annual charity and health outreach program. This initiative reflected their unwavering dedication to addressing the needs of vulnerable groups within the community.

The Franciscan Sisters of Mary Centre of Hope has long been a beacon of support for marginalized groups, including people living with HIV, brilliant but needy students, and elderly women. Recognizing this important mission, the UCC alumni joined forces to deliver both tangible assistance and essential health services.

Acts of Kindness and Generosity

The outreach program saw the alumni donating a range of vital supplies to the Centre’s charity foundation, including:

  • 15 bags of 25kg rice
  • 2 cartons of vegetable oil
  • 2 cartons of sardines
  • Tissue rolls
  • Breakfast essentials such as milk and Milo
  • A cash donation to further sustain the Centre’s impactful work

In addition, the alumni served hot meals to beneficiaries and provided financial tokens to offer some relief and brighten their day.

Prioritizing Health and Well-being

To ensure holistic support, the event included a health screening exercise aimed at addressing the medical needs of the Centre’s beneficiaries. Services offered included:

  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • Blood glucose testing
  • Breast cancer screening
  • General health checks

These health interventions provided critical insights and care, particularly for individuals who often lack access to routine medical attention.

A Commitment to Making a Difference

Speaking at the event, Ms. Charlotte Hedidzi, President of the UCC Biological Science Alumni, expressed profound gratitude to all who contributed to the program’s success. “This initiative is a reflection of our commitment to the UCC legacy of giving back. We hope that our actions inspire others to join in making a difference in the lives of the underserved,” she stated.

The collaborative efforts of the alumni groups showcased the power of unity in driving meaningful change. Their contributions not only reinforced the UCC tradition of service but also brought smiles and renewed hope to the beneficiaries.

As the outreach drew to a close, the Franciscan Sisters of Mary Centre of Hope stood as a testament to the profound impact of compassion and collective action. The day’s activities left a lasting impression, demonstrating that through purposeful giving, lives can be transformed, and communities strengthened for a brighter future.
