GSA cracks down on unjustified delay charges at Ghana’s ports
The Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA) has cautioned the shipping community that shippers using Ghana’s ports are not liable for costs associated with delays beyond their control.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the GSA urged all stakeholders, including cargo owners, consignees, and service providers, to promptly report any imposed charges for such delays. The authority assured that investigations would be conducted, and refunds issued if delays were found to be due to systemic failures.
The GSA noted ongoing issues at the Tema Port, including the frequent breakdown of scanners at the MPS Terminal 3 and intermittent disruptions in the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS). These challenges have caused significant delays in container clearance and cargo evacuation, affecting the efficiency of port operations.
Efforts are underway to address these persistent issues, the statement added. The GSA called on all affected parties to cooperate by reporting cases to ensure fairness and accountability in port activities.
The authority reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding the interests of shippers and ensuring seamless operations across Ghana’s ports.
