Education Minister Charges CIMG to Drive National Branding and Public Sector Marketing Reforms

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has called on the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG), to champion a comprehensive national branding and public sector marketing strategy to elevate Ghana’s profile domestically and internationally.

Speaking at the inauguration of the new CIMG Governing Council at the Ministry of Education in Accra, the Minister emphasized the urgent need to embed marketing expertise across all government institutions and sectors to support national development.

“Branding must move beyond tourism,” Mr. Iddrisu stated. “Every Ministry, Department, and Agency must actively promote Ghana’s vision, values, and development programs.”
He challenged the CIMG to take a leading role in positioning Ghanaian products, policies, and culture on global platforms such as CNN and Al Jazeera, noting that today’s citizenry demands greater quality, transparency, and engagement from both the private and public sectors.

“Marketing is no longer about selling goods and services alone. It must be a governance tool for building trust, influencing perceptions, and driving national transformation,” he asserted.

The Minister congratulated the newly inaugurated CIMG Governing Council led by National President Mr. Michael Abbiw, with Mrs. Ama Gifty Amoah as Vice President, Mr. Edwin Letsa K. Kpedor as National Secretary, and Dr. Francis Mensah Sasraku as Treasurer.
He also paid tribute to the outgoing leadership, chaired by Dr. Daniel Kasser-Tee, urging them to offer continued mentorship to the new team.

In his remarks, Mr. Abbiw pledged to strengthen the role of marketing in national development, aligning the Institute’s activities with the CIMG Act, 2020 (Act 1021), which formally designates CIMG as Ghana’s professional marketing body.

Highlighting progress made, Mr. Abbiw noted the success of the CIMG Professional Marketing Qualifications (PMQ) program, which recently achieved a 77.7% pass rate among 248 candidates, offering specialized pathways in partnership with traditional and technical universities.

Looking ahead, the Council has set an ambitious eight-point strategic agenda focused on expanding membership, enhancing education, enforcing professional ethics, advancing research, and intensifying advocacy efforts.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting CIMG’s initiatives, recognizing marketing as a critical catalyst for economic transformation, investment attraction, and cultural diplomacy.
