Yaw Asare Jailed Two Years for Damaging Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange Infrastructure

The Dansoman Circuit Court has sentenced Yaw Asare, a 48-year-old head porter, to two years’ imprisonment at Nsawam for unlawfully damaging road infrastructure on the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange in Accra.
Asare was arrested on June 9, 2025, after he was caught tampering with parapet beams and accessories on the newly constructed interchange. His actions were deemed to have caused unlawful damage contrary to Section 172 of the Criminal Offences Act.
The Ministry of Roads and Highways, which announced the conviction in a statement, expressed deep concern about the growing trend of damage to road infrastructure. These include acts of vandalism and damage resulting from reckless vehicular crashes, particularly incidents involving traffic lights.
“The Ministry reminds the public that causing unlawful damage to public infrastructure is an offence,” the statement stressed, warning that offenders will face the full force of the law.
The Ministry also assured that it will continue to work closely with the Ghana Police Service to ensure strict accountability for anyone found culpable of damaging public infrastructure.
