Nigeria has confirmed intensified security and intelligence cooperation with the United States, leading to precision air strikes against terrorist targets in the country’s North West as authorities step up efforts to counter violent extremism.

In a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, the Federal Government said the collaboration forms part of a structured bilateral security arrangement aimed at addressing persistent terrorism threats through intelligence sharing, strategic coordination and other forms of support consistent with international law.

The Ministry explained that the cooperation aligns with established international practice and is anchored on mutual respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty and shared commitments to regional and global security.

According to the statement, Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations remain guided by the protection of civilian lives, national unity and the rights and dignity of all citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity. The government stressed that terrorist violence in any form whether targeting Christians, Muslims or other communities—runs contrary to Nigeria’s values and undermines international peace and security.

The Federal Government also noted that it is working closely with its partners to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, and prevent cross-border threats, while simultaneously strengthening Nigeria’s own security institutions and intelligence capabilities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured the public that it will continue to engage relevant international partners and provide updates through official channels as security operations progress.
