GSA pledges transformational growth in shipping sector

In a significant move towards revitalizing Ghana’s Shipping and Logistics sector, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA), Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, has outlined ambitious plans for the organization under his leadership.

During a courtesy visit to His Majesty, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, Sarpong expressed unwavering commitment to fostering substantial advancements within the industry.

Emphasizing the pivotal role of a thriving business environment in national development, Sarpong underscored GSA’s strategic intent to drive transformative change over the next five years.

 Central to this vision is the reorganization of sector stakeholders into specialized zones, aimed at tailoring services to optimize outcomes across the board.

A key focus of the delegation’s discussions with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was the Boankra Inland Port & Logistics Terminal (BILT) project in Ejisu Municipality. The CEO highlighted the project’s critical importance, particularly in integrating rail infrastructure to bolster operational efficiency. With significant progress already achieved in Phase 1 of the project, Sarpong expressed optimism about its timely completion, signaling a boost for international trade and national revenue.

“With about 50% of Phase 1 which includes civil works, earthworks, road networks, drainage systems, container freight terminals, container handling facilities, bonded warehouses, Administration and Operations blocks completed, it is the expectation of GSA that, works on the rail lines across the country designed to feed BILT will be given prioritised attention,” the GSA CEO submitted.

In response, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II commended the delegation for their commitment and urged them to prioritize their roles in ensuring GSA’s strategic goals translate into tangible benefits for Ghana. He pledged ongoing support towards the swift realization of the BILT project, reinforcing his dedication to facilitating seamless trade operations within the region.

The GSA delegation included notable figures such as Madam Stella Wilson, Chairperson of GSA, and various board members and management personnel, highlighting a unified effort towards achieving the organization’s objectives under Sarpong’s stewardship.

As Ghana looks towards enhancing its position in global trade, Sarpong’s leadership at GSA promises to usher in a new era of efficiency and growth in the shipping and logistics sector.
