PAIX Data Centres expands Accra facility to boost digital economy

PAIX Data Centres, a leading pan-African data centre developer and operator, has announced a significant expansion of its facility in Accra, Ghana. The facility has been upgraded to 1.2 MW, marking a critical boost to the region’s digital economy. This expansion is expected to enhance connectivity and support economic growth in the region.

The project received substantial backing from Africa50, a pan-African infrastructure investor and asset manager, which invested over $30 million in growth equity to support PAIX Data Centres’ expansion into new markets and the upgrade of existing facilities.

Now one of the largest data centres in Ghana, the expanded PAIX facility will provide internet service providers (ISPs), cloud providers, and enterprises with robust digital infrastructure and improved connectivity. This development is crucial as only 10% to 30% of effective data centre demand in sub-Saharan Africa is currently being met.

Africa50’s involvement aims to attract significant public and private capital to accelerate investments in green data centres, transmission lines, smart cities, and fibre optic networks across Africa. Their goal is to maximize productivity and support the region’s digital transformation.

The upgraded PAIX facility in Accra features state-of-the-art infrastructure and robust security measures, ensuring optimal performance and reliability for mission-critical applications. Additionally, the data centre incorporates advanced cooling and waste management systems, with an increased focus on renewable energy to minimize environmental impact.

Strategically located in Accra, the facility offers low latency connectivity to major regional and international network routes and subsea cables, further enhancing the efficiency and performance of its services. This expansion underscores PAIX Data Centres’ commitment to fostering digital growth and connectivity in Africa.
