Nine Dengue cases confirmed in Ghana’s Eastern region

Ghanaian health authorities announced on Sunday the confirmation of nine dengue cases in the Eastern Region. The Ghana Health Service (GHS) reported that the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) verified that patient samples tested positive for dengue.

The GHS explained that the national surveillance team detected malaria-like illnesses in several districts of the Eastern Region that were unresponsive to standard malaria treatments. Consequently, samples from these patients were sent to NMIMR, where nine cases were confirmed as dengue.

“Samples from the patients were sent to the NMIMR for testing, and nine of them have been confirmed as dengue and are being managed as non-severe cases at home,” the GHS stated.

In response to the outbreak, a team of specialists from the national level has joined the regional health team to conduct detailed investigations and manage the situation effectively.

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted from mosquitoes to humans, causing symptoms such as fever, nausea, body aches, and headaches. The GHS has assured the public that they are taking all necessary measures to control the outbreak and provide appropriate care for the affected individuals.
