Coastal Network Foundation Donates Educational Materials to 2 Schools in Dawhenya and Prampram

The Coastal Network Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) committed to enhancing education in underprivileged communities, has donated textbooks and reading materials to two schools in the Greater Accra Region.
The beneficiary institutions, Dawhenya Methodist ‘B’ Basic School and Prampram Presbyterian Basic School, received a variety of educational resources aimed at improving literacy and learning outcomes among students.
The donation comprised 200 Note 1 exercise books, 40 My First Copybooks, 45 storybooks, and 360 mathematics and science textbooks for Basic 1 to 3. This initiative aligns with the Foundation’s broader goal of equipping young learners with the knowledge and skills necessary for a sustainable future.
Speaking to this portal, Rev. Isaac Abeka, a board member of the Foundation, reiterated the commitment of Coastal Network Foundation to promoting literacy in deprived communities, particularly within coastal areas.
“Our vision is to extend a helping hand to the underprivileged in society. We are dedicated to encouraging reading habits among young students, from kindergarten through to tertiary education. Many children in these communities often turn to fishing and other informal work due to a lack of structured academic engagement. Our aim is to create an environment where reading becomes their primary interest,” he explained.
The Foundation also appealed to the general public and corporate entities to support their initiative by donating additional reading materials. They acknowledged the contributions of Adwinsa and Masterman Publications, whose sponsorship made the donation possible.
At Dawhenya Methodist ‘B’ Basic School, the Headteacher, Mr. Theophilus Adofo Gyamfi, expressed deep appreciation for the donation, highlighting its significance in addressing the school’s limited educational resources.
“The community we serve has many students eager to learn but lacking access to necessary learning materials. We have implemented programs to improve reading skills, and this donation will greatly aid our efforts. We hope for continued support, especially in other crucial areas like sanitation and hygiene, which are essential for our female students,” he stated.
Mr. Gyamfi also revealed that the school had applied for support from the Foundation and was delighted to have been selected as a beneficiary. He encouraged other organizations and individuals to contribute towards literacy development in deprived communities.
Miss Phoebe Agbayizah, the Girls’ Prefect and a final-year student at Dawhenya Methodist ‘B’ Basic School, also shared her gratitude, emphasizing how the donation would ease the burden on students who struggle to afford textbooks. She thanked the Coastal Network Foundation and prayed for blessings upon the organization for their generosity.
At Prampram Presbyterian Basic School, the Foundation provided approximately 300 textbooks, including 80 literacy and activity books for Kindergarten 1 and 2, 70 English language textbooks for Basic 1 to 3, 70 Religious and Moral Education books for the same levels, 70 Creative Arts books, and 45 storybooks.
The Assistant Headteacher of the school, Mr. Alfred Dankwa Yirenkyi, expressed his gratitude, noting that the availability of reading materials would significantly improve students’ learning experiences. He emphasized that many students struggle with reading due to a lack of books, making such donations crucial for enhancing literacy and language skills.
“These books will provide our students with the resources they need to improve their reading and comprehension skills. This will not only boost their academic performance but also increase their confidence in speaking English,” he stated.
The Coastal Network Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to extending its impact beyond coastal communities, ensuring that deprived schools across Ghana receive the necessary educational support. The Foundation remains open to partnerships that will equip young learners with essential reading and writing skills, fostering a culture of lifelong learning.
