Lions International launches Westlands Citadel Lions Club

The Westlands Citadel Lions Club has been officially launched at a grand Charter and Fundraising Ceremony held at Westlands, Legon. The ceremony marked a significant milestone in Ghana’s Lions movement as the new club was formally inducted into the global Lions International family.
The occasion also served as a platform to induct new members and raise funds to purchase a respiratory monitor machine for the pediatric cancer unit at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
In a heartfelt and spirited acceptance speech, Charter President of the Westlands Citadel Lions Club, Lion Olive Ewura-Ama Arthur, pledged a strong commitment to the ideals of Lions International and promised to steer the club toward impactful community service, youth development, and sustainable growth.
“I stand before you tonight, humbled and honoured in the celebration of the birth of Westlands Citadel Lions Club, to accept the role of Charter President. I am grateful for the trust you have placed in me, and I promise to work tirelessly to serve our club and our community,” she said.
Lion Olive Ewura-Ama Arthur acknowledged the pivotal roles played by several key supporters in the formation and success of the club.
She gave special recognition to the sponsoring club, as well as Lion Dr. David Ako B. Odoi and Lion Ebo Pra Manson, 2nd Vice District Governor, who served as guiding Lions. She also extended her appreciation to Lion Kodua Edjekumhene and Lion Professor Daniel K. Twerefou for what she described as their “immense support” throughout the process.
“To my fellow charter members, I am proud to stand alongside each and every one of you,” she said. “Your dedication, passion, and commitment to our shared values are what make our club strong. As we move forward, our focus will be on serving our community, supporting our youth, and promoting the values of Lionism. We will work tirelessly to make a positive impact and leave a lasting legacy.”
Lions International Welcomes a New Chapter
President of Lions Clubs International, Dr. Patti Hill, in a special message to mark the occasion, officially welcomed the Westlands Citadel Lions Club into the global Lions family. She presented the official charter of the club, noting that the Westlands Citadel Lions were now part of a vast global network of over 1.4 million members across 49,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.
“You are part of a family that is 1.4 million members strong. We are dedicated to our motto ‘We Serve’ and committed to making a difference in our communities and our world,” Dr. Hill stated.
She encouraged the new club to build on the legacy of service, urging them to plan and execute meaningful service initiatives while continuing to recruit new members who share the vision of selfless leadership and community transformation.
“As part of our international association, you are connected to Lions around the world not only through your membership but also through our Lions International Foundation. Just like you, they are committed to addressing local and global challenges. Together, we are changing the world — one life, one relationship, and one community at a time.”
Dr. Hill expressed optimism that the newly inducted club would grow into a pillar of excellence and inspiration for other clubs across Africa and beyond.
A Night of Purpose and Commitment
The event brought together past and present cabinet officers, Lions Club leaders, district officers, Leos, and distinguished guests from across the country. It was also an opportunity to showcase the club’s commitment to health-focused initiatives, beginning with its first major fundraising target: securing a respiratory monitor machine to support critical care for children battling cancer at Ghana’s leading referral facility, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The Charter President emphasized that the Westlands Citadel Lions Club was born with a vision not only to serve but to lead in transformative impact.
“This is just the beginning of our journey. We are determined to make a difference, uplift the vulnerable, and support the growth of our youth. I am excited to get started and serve with heart, purpose, and pride,” she concluded.
As Lions around the world continue to promote health, education, and humanitarian service, the establishment of the Westlands Citadel Lions Club adds renewed energy and momentum to the Lions movement in Ghana. The new club’s emphasis on service, integrity, and strategic community partnerships is expected to create a ripple effect of development within the Legon and Westlands enclave and beyond.
