Government Launches Student Loan Portal to Ease First-Year Tertiary Education Costs

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has officially launched a digital application portal for first-year students in Ghana’s public tertiary institutions to access financial support under the government’s newly introduced No-Fee-Stress policy.
The initiative, managed by the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), is aimed at removing financial barriers to higher education by offering student loans at the point of entry into tertiary institutions. The No-Fee-Stress policy is described as a bold and visionary move by government to support Ghana’s human capital development and ensure inclusive and equitable access to tertiary education.
“This policy represents a strategic investment in Ghana’s future,” said Hon. Haruna Iddrisu at the launch event. “By making financing accessible at the beginning of the academic journey, we are removing a major roadblock for thousands of brilliant but needy students.”
The new SLTF portal, now live and fully operational, provides a simplified and secure registration process that allows eligible students to input their information for verification and access funding support with ease.
Officials from the Students Loan Trust Fund emphasized their commitment to the successful rollout of the policy and its long-term implementation. They noted that the portal will help improve efficiency in processing applications and broaden the reach of government support to vulnerable student populations across the country.
The launch marks a significant milestone in the government’s agenda to expand access to higher education and reduce financial stress for students and their families.
