TUC Mourns National Loss, Pays Tribute to Victims of Military Helicopter Crash

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) of Ghana and its affiliates have expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several high-ranking government officials and military personnel in Adansi Sikaman, close to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025.

In a solemn press statement, the Secretary-General of TUC, Joshua Ansah, extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and described the incident as a devastating national tragedy.

Among the victims were prominent figures:

  • Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence

  • Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment

  • Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

  • Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC

  • Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Former Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East

  • Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala

  • Flying Officer Twum Ampadu

  • Sergeant Ernest Addo

TUC described their passing as not only a great personal loss to their families but also a monumental blow to the government and people of Ghana. “We honour their dedicated service to the nation and pray for strength and comfort for all who mourn,” the statement read.

The labour union urged the nation to come together in grief and remembrance, commending the selfless service of the deceased in safeguarding the country’s democracy and security.

“May their souls rest with the Lord,” the statement concluded.

As investigations continue into the cause of the crash, Ghanaians are uniting in reflection, with tributes pouring in from across the political, military, and civil society spectrum.
