The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has intensified its fight against cross-border crimes, securing convictions against five foreign nationals involved in human trafficking and passport fraud.

In Ashaiman, two Nigerians ,John Moore, 20, and Charles Bruce, 21, each received 18 months’ imprisonment for their roles in trafficking and romance scamming. The convictions followed the rescue and repatriation of two victims, Joseph Atungwa and Cletus Tom Emmanuel, who were deceived with promises of lucrative jobs in Ghana but instead handed over to the convicts for training in online fraud.

Separately, at the Tema Passport Application Centre, three others,  Yusuf Mohammed, 26, a Nigerian radiographer; Mohammed Ogbona, 32, a Nigerian factory hand; and Nalvine Anne Fonjong, 31, a Cameroonian trader , were caught falsifying birth certificates and identity cards in an attempt to obtain Ghanaian passports. They were sentenced to 10 years, 15 years, and six months in prison respectively by the Tema District Court.

The GIS has warned foreign nationals that there are legal avenues for acquiring Ghanaian citizenship, and any attempt to bypass due process will result in arrest and prosecution. The Service reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing immigration laws to safeguard national security and development.
