India’s AI Push and Swadeshi Spirit Drive Vision for Inclusive Growth

President Droupadi Murmu, in her address on the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day, outlined an ambitious vision to position India as a global leader in artificial intelligence by 2047 while staying rooted in the nation’s self-reliance ethos.
Her address was read by Indian High Commision to Ghana Mr Manish Gupta on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day Celebrations.
Highlighting the launch of the India-AI Mission, the President said the initiative aims to build AI capabilities tailored to the country’s needs, ensuring that technological progress improves governance and directly benefits citizens. She emphasized that technology must not be an end in itself but a tool for enhancing the ease of living, particularly for people on the margins, and for boosting the ease of doing business.
President Murmu stressed that India’s journey towards becoming Viksit Bharat (Developed India) rests on strengthening self-reliance across sectors. This, she said, has bolstered the country’s confidence and accelerated development momentum.
Drawing on historical inspiration, the President reflected on the recent celebration of National Handloom Day on August 7, commemorating the Swadeshi Movement of 1905. She invoked Mahatma Gandhi’s advocacy for locally made goods as a blueprint for contemporary initiatives like Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.
Calling on citizens to actively support Indian artisans and industries, President Murmu urged the nation to adopt a conscious “buy Indian” mindset, ensuring that progress in technology is matched by pride in indigenous products.
The President’s message wove together India’s tech-driven future with its enduring cultural and economic heritage, underscoring that true progress blends innovation with self-reliance for the benefit of all.
