Mahama Announces Posthumous Promotions for Military Officers in Helicopter Crash

President John Mahama has announced posthumous promotions for the three military officers of the Ghana Armed Forces officers who perished in the August 6 helicopter crash, while revealing that the civilians who died alongside them will be honoured separately at the upcoming National Awards.
Speaking at the state funeral held in Accra on Friday, the President described the fallen officers as patriots who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. He said their courage, commitment, and sacrifice would forever remain a source of national pride.
The new promotions were announced as Wing Commander Peter Baafemi Anala, Flight Lieutenant Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Flight Sergeant Mensah Addo Ernest, with the President instructing that the Ghana Armed Forces formally confers the insignias marking the new ranks in recognition of their service.
The tragic crash, which occurred during a routine mission, plunged the nation into mourning and sparked an outpouring of tributes from across the country. President Mahama assured the bereaved families that the state would stand firmly with them and ensure the legacies of their loved ones endure.
The solemn ceremony, attended by high-ranking government officials, military leaders, foreign dignitaries, and grieving relatives, featured full military honours. The Ghana Armed Forces have pledged to complete investigations into the cause of the crash and take measures to prevent future tragedies.
