The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in the Northern Region has intercepted and repatriated 55 Burkinabe nationals following a swoop in Tamale, where the individuals were found engaged in alleged fraudulent activities and without valid travel documents.

The operation, carried out on intelligence, is part of a wider directive by the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, for border and regional commands to intensify crackdowns on cyber fraud and related immigration offences.

According to GIS officials, 38 of the Burkinabes were apprehended in one suburb of Tamale, where they were reportedly linked to a network marketing scheme known as NEOLIFE. Further checks revealed that none of them had proper travel documentation.

In a separate operation in another part of the city, 17 others were picked up. They were allegedly connected to QNET, another controversial network marketing scheme, and were also found without valid immigration papers.

Assistant Commissioner of Immigration and Head of Public Affairs, M. Amoako-Atta, confirmed that all 55 individuals have since been safely repatriated. He stressed that while GIS is committed to safeguarding Ghana’s borders, the Service will continue to ensure that foreign nationals are treated lawfully and humanely.

The Service reiterated its resolve to clamp down on the increasing use of fraudulent business models, such as network marketing scams, which often exploit unsuspecting individuals across borders.
