Travellers passing through Accra International Airport are now welcomed by a cleaner, more striking frontage, following the completion of a signage refurbishment project by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).

GACL Management confirmed that the works, covering repainting and restoration of the prominent “Accra International Airport” inscription have been successfully completed, forming part of ongoing efforts to enhance passenger experience and preserve the airport’s image.

The exercise was concluded in the early hours of today after running slightly beyond the initial timeline.

According to the company, the work schedule was deliberately structured to minimise disruption to airport operations and vehicular movement. Given the height of the signage and its proximity to the busy car park area, all works were carried out at night after the departure of the last flight.

“The work was carried out at night due to the height of the installation and its proximity to the car park area, to ensure that the travelling public and airport users were not inconvenienced,” Management explained.

The upgraded signage now offers a more polished and inviting appearance, consistent with the airport’s role as a key gateway for international travel and business into Ghana and the wider West African region.

Aviation observers say such improvements, though often understated, are important in shaping the perceptions of travellers, investors, and visitors. The visual appeal of airport infrastructure particularly at entry and exit points is increasingly seen as part of a country’s broader service delivery ecosystem, influencing impressions of efficiency and organisation.

The signage upgrade is one of several incremental enhancements being implemented by GACL to maintain infrastructure quality and service standards. This comes amid growing competition across African aviation hubs, as countries continue to modernise facilities to attract airlines and increase passenger traffic.

Managing Director of GACL, Mrs Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, reiterated the company’s commitment to continuous improvement, assuring passengers and stakeholders of sustained efforts to enhance both operations and customer experience.

She stressed that feedback from airport users remains a key driver of ongoing improvements, adding that management will continue to respond to public concerns while upgrading essential infrastructure.

While modest in scale, the completed signage project underscores a broader focus on detail, an approach analysts say is vital to sustaining competitiveness and advancing Ghana’s ambition of positioning Accra as a preferred aviation and business hub in the sub-region.
