Govt launches Citizen App to streamline public services
has introduced the Citizen App, a mobile application designed to revolutionize public service delivery by connecting all government agencies for seamless data exchange. Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, speaking at the launch in Accra, emphasized the app’s role in the government’s ongoing digitalization efforts, calling it a “central pillar” in the country’s economic strategy.
Before the digitalization push began in 2017, government services were often plagued by inefficiencies, with long queues, multiple in-person visits, and excessive paperwork slowing down progress. Dr. Bawumia noted that the Citizen App will address these issues, offering Ghanaians faster, more efficient, and transparent access to government services via their mobile devices.
“This app empowers citizens by cutting through bureaucracy and reducing waiting times,” Dr. Bawumia said. The app integrates real-time data between state agencies, with all information linked to an individual’s Ghana Card, ensuring a smoother process for users across various services, such as tax filing, vehicle registration, and clearing goods at the ports.
GRA Commissioner-General, Julie Essiam, highlighted the app’s potential to streamline processes at the ports, noting how it will reduce the time and paperwork required for clearing goods. “The Citizen App will enable seamless interaction between agencies, making it easier for Ghanaians to access services from their phones,” she explained.
The Citizen App is expected to boost efficiency in public services, improve Ghana’s global competitiveness, and enhance economic growth. Dr. Bawumia urged citizens to embrace the app as the country enters a new era of digital governance. The app will be rolled out nationwide, accompanied by public awareness campaigns to ensure citizens can fully utilize its benefits.
