Patrick Appiah Mensah to Lead Revamp of Bogoso Prestea Gold Mine

Heath Goldfields Ltd has appointed seasoned mining executive Patrick Appiah Mensah as Managing Director of the Bogoso Prestea Gold Mine, signaling a renewed drive to restart and transform the once-thriving mine into a model for responsible gold production in Ghana.
The announcement comes at a time when Ghana’s mining sector is seeking greater sustainability and community engagement amid rising calls for reforms and economic inclusion, especially in mining-affected areas.
Mr. Mensah brings over two decades of experience in mine operations, capital projects, and leadership roles across Africa. His portfolio includes stints at major firms like Glencore’s Kamoto Copper Company in the DRC, AngloGold Ashanti Ghana, Gold Fields Ghana, Barrick Tanzania, and Asante Gold Corporation Ghana.
Heath Goldfields says the appointment is a “significant milestone” in its strategy to restore operations at the Bogoso Prestea site, which has been under care and maintenance for some time. The mine, located in Ghana’s Western Region, has long been a critical economic anchor for surrounding communities.
Mr. Mensah is expected to spearhead efforts to secure investment, rebuild operational capacity, and forge inclusive partnerships with local stakeholders. His qualifications include an MBA from the University of Bradford (UK), a Master’s in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from UMaT, and ongoing postgraduate studies in Mining Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines in the US. He also completed an executive development program at Harvard.
The company reaffirmed its mission to deliver sustainable gold mining that “enriches lives, empowers communities, and preserves the environment.” With Mr. Mensah at the helm, Heath Goldfields hopes to position Bogoso Prestea not just as a mining site, but as a blueprint for Ghana’s future in responsible mineral resource development.
