Ghana’s Ministry of Health (MOH) has announced a 50 percent reduction in admission fees for Nursing and Allied Health Training students, effective the 2025/2026 academic year.

According to the Ministry, the intervention has been made possible under government’s flagship “No-Fee-Stress Policy” for tertiary students, aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and learners while promoting access to health education.

“This initiative means government has absorbed half of the approved fees for all first-year students enrolled in Nursing and Allied Health Training Institutions,” the Ministry said in a press statement issued on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Strict Adherence to New Policy

The Ministry stressed that all health training institutions are strictly required to adhere to the approved fees and items as communicated. Institutions have also been warned not to impose unauthorized charges or demand extra payments beyond the approved amounts.

Principals of Health Training Institutions who flout the directive risk sanctions, with the Ministry making it clear that any principal who contravenes the directive “does so at his or her own peril.”

Presidential Commitment

The directive, according to the Ministry, fulfills President John Dramani Mahama’s pledge to reduce financial pressures on families and provide relief to aspiring health professionals. The move, it noted, will enable many young Ghanaians to pursue their academic and professional dreams in the health sector.

Commitment to Equity in Education

Reiterating government’s focus on equitable access, the Ministry assured the public of its continuous commitment to safeguarding student welfare and ensuring fairness in health training admissions.

Heads of Health Training Institutions were directed to immediately begin preparations for the admission of students under the new arrangement for the 2025/2026 academic year.
