Church of Jesus Christ Supports Heal Komfo Anokye Project with Major Medical Equipment Donation

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has donated a significant consignment of medical equipment to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in support of the ongoing Heal Komfo Anokye Project (HeKAP), the major renovation initiative being championed by His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The presentation took place in Kumasi and was attended by members of the Heal Komfo Anokye Project Committee, the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate, and management and staff of the hospital.
Speaking at the ceremony, Elder Isaac K. Morrison, Second Counsellor in the Africa West Area Presidency of the Church, said the donation was made in response to a request from the project team a year ago. He noted that the gesture reflects the Church’s commitment to humanitarian service.
“These items are not merely hospital tools. They are instruments of healing, symbols of solidarity, and expressions of God’s love for His children,” Elder Morrison said.
Scope of Donation
The equipment donated includes:
-
20 patient monitors
-
15 hydraulic stretchers
-
10 dual ABS medicine trolleys
-
30 wheelchairs
-
40 cardiac tables
-
40 drip stands
-
34 folding bed screens
-
15 electronic hospital beds
-
10 bedside lockers
-
15 crash trolleys
The items are expected to improve patient care, support emergency response, and ease pressure on clinical staff.
Elder Morrison commended Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for initiating HeKAP, describing it as timely and impactful. He reaffirmed the Church’s willingness to support humanitarian work across the country regardless of religious or cultural background.
Elder Alfred Kyungu, President of the Africa West Area of the Church, stressed that the Church’s involvement is guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ.
“We are not doing this to prove capacity. We are living the gospel. This is what the Savior did, so we follow Him,” he said. He added that the Church had taken note of additional requests from the hospital and would consider them carefully.
KATH Welcomes Support as Renovation Progresses
Chief Executive Officer of KATH, Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, described the donation as timely, noting that the hospital continues to face equipment shortages as renovation work progresses.
“We face many challenges, so this support means a great deal to us. Without this intervention, securing such equipment would have been extremely difficult,” Dr. Baidoo said.
He announced that as a token of appreciation, a section of the renovated hospital block would be dedicated to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ashanti Regional Health Director, Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng, also commended the Church, saying the donation addresses critical gaps in healthcare delivery.
“With universal health coverage, access is not enough; the quality of care matters. This support strengthens the depth of service we provide,” he said.
