BoG Replaces Governor on GoldBod Board With Second Deputy Governor
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has replaced Governor Dr Johnson Asiama as its representative on the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), with Second Deputy Governor Mrs Matilda Asante-Asiedu now serving on the board.
The change took effect after Dr Asiama ceased to be a member of the GoldBod Board on May 11, 2026, according to the Bank of Ghana.
The central bank said Dr Asiama has not participated in any GoldBod board meetings or activities since leaving the board.
Mrs Asante-Asiedu has since assumed the role, representing the Bank of Ghana in line with the statutory requirement for central bank representation on the GoldBod Board.
The clarification follows recent public commentary about the Bank of Ghana’s representation on the board.
Under Section 4 of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), the Bank of Ghana is required to be represented on the GoldBod Board by the Governor or an official of the Bank who is not below the rank of Director.
The Bank said the nomination of Mrs Asante-Asiedu therefore fulfils the statutory requirement for its representation on the board.
The clarification also establishes that Dr Asiama’s departure from the board was effective from May 11 and that his subsequent activities as Governor have not included participation in GoldBod board proceedings.
GoldBod is responsible for Ghana’s gold purchasing and related activities under the framework established by the 2025 Act, making the composition and statutory representation of its governing board a matter of institutional importance.
