GIS Warns Public Over Fake WhatsApp Account Impersonating Comptroller-General

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has issued a public warning about a fraudulent WhatsApp account that is impersonating the Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Service revealed that the bogus account, operating under the number +233 242 604 119, is using a profile picture of the Comptroller-General alongside the President and Vice President of Ghana in an apparent attempt to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

“The account does not belong to the Comptroller-General of Immigration, and the public is advised not to engage it,” the GIS cautioned.

The statement further stressed that Mr. Amadu disassociates himself entirely from the fake account, warning that anyone who interacts with it does so at their own risk.

The GIS is urging the public to remain vigilant and to verify any suspicious messages or contact purporting to originate from the leadership of the Service.

The warning comes amid a growing trend of online impersonation and cyber fraud targeting public figures and government institutions in Ghana.
