The Government of Ghana has released the official programme of activities for the three-day national mourning period in honour of the victims of the tragic military helicopter crash near Obuasi in the Ashanti region.

The mourning period, already declared from Thursday, August 7 to Saturday, August 9, 2025, will be marked by public acts of remembrance, including the laying of flowers, lighting of candles, and a final national memorial event.

According to a statement signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the commemorative activities will begin on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. with a public flower-laying and candle-lighting ceremony at the Ceremonial Garden in front of the Presidency. The public, families, and friends of the departed have been invited to take part in this solemn occasion.

The remembrance activities will continue on Friday, August 8, with more opportunities for citizens to express condolences and reflect on the lives and contributions of the deceased.

The mourning period will culminate in a poignant “Evening of Reflections and Memorials” on Saturday, August 9, at 5:00 p.m. at the Forecourt of the State House. This national event is expected to bring Ghanaians together to honour the memory of the victims and acknowledge their service to the country.

“These three days offer our nation a vital opportunity to collectively mourn and reflect on the profound loss we have experienced,” the government noted in the statement, encouraging citizens to observe the period with dignity and respect.

The statement further disclosed that details of the official State Funeral and other arrangements will be communicated through official government channels in the coming days.
