UBA Ghana Names Linda Quaynor First Female Board Chair

UBA Ghana has appointed Linda Naa Dzama Quaynor as its first female Board Chairperson, bringing more than 25 years of experience in financial services, investment, public policy and corporate strategy to the bank’s next phase of growth.
Quaynor takes over from Kweku Andoh Awotwi, who retired from the board after serving as chairperson during a period the bank described as one of transformational growth.
Her appointment comes as Ghana’s banking industry faces growing demands for stronger corporate governance, digital security, private-sector financing and innovation.
Quaynor brings experience across several of these areas, having worked with governments, regulators, financial institutions, multinational companies and development organisations in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.
Before her elevation to the board chair, she chaired UBA Ghana’s Cyber and Information Security Committee, where she provided strategic oversight of cybersecurity, digital resilience and risk management.
That experience is particularly relevant as banks increasingly depend on digital platforms to deliver financial services while facing rising cyber and operational risks.
Quaynor has held senior positions including Partner at Deloitte Consulting West Africa, Senior Executive at Accenture, General Manager of EFInA, Senior Partner at Vircan Capital and Programme Director for Nigeria at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.
Her experience also extends beyond banking into investment and infrastructure.
She serves on the board of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund and as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Growth Investment Partners, which provides growth capital to Ghanaian companies.
Her exposure to investment and business strategy gives her a broader perspective on the financing needs of companies and the role financial institutions can play in supporting private-sector expansion.
For UBA Ghana, that combination of banking, investment, policy and governance experience could help the bank deepen its role in financing businesses while maintaining stronger risk controls.
The appointment also comes at a significant point in UBA Ghana’s leadership transition. For the first time, two Ghanaians have been appointed Managing Director/CEO and Executive Director of the bank.
UBA Group Managing Director Oliver Alawuba welcomed Quaynor’s appointment and expressed confidence that she would sustain the bank’s growth trajectory.
Her appointment also marks a milestone for female representation at the highest level of Ghana’s financial sector, while signalling UBA Ghana’s intention to combine growth with stronger governance, innovation and stakeholder value.
With experience spanning finance, strategy, cybersecurity, investment and public policy, Quaynor assumes the board chair at a time when the strength of corporate leadership will increasingly determine how banks respond to Ghana’s evolving economic and business environment.
