AUCC now African University of Communications and Business, after Charter

The African University College of Communications (AUCC) has reached a transformative milestone, receiving a Presidential Charter to become the African University of Communications and Business (AUCB).

The achievement solidifies the University’s position as a fully autonomous institution and one of the few private universities in Ghana to attain that prestigious status.

A statement from the university, signed by the its President, Prof. Isaac Abeku Blankson described the milestone as a testament to its commitment to excellence in education and professional development.

The statement said the institution had also adopted its new name, the African University of Communications and Business (AUCB), which aligns with its broadened mission to provide innovative, industry-relevant education within a Pan-African framework.

Years of Mentorship and Collaboration

The journey to attaining the Presidential Charter was marked by years of mentorship, collaboration, and unwavering support from some of Ghana’s leading academic institutions. The University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), University of Education, Winneba, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, and the Ministry of Education played pivotal roles in shaping AUCB’s growth and development.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to these esteemed institutions for their invaluable guidance and support. This achievement would not have been possible without their contribution,” the statement read.

Expanded Mission and Vision

As AUCB embarks on this new chapter, the university has committed to an expanded mission that integrates communication, media studies, business, and entrepreneurship into a unified curriculum. This approach aims to equip students with the tools and knowledge necessary to excel in today’s dynamic global economy.

The university’s emphasis on blending theory with practical application ensures that its graduates are not only academically prepared but also capable of addressing real-world challenges in industries spanning media, technology, and business.

A Legacy of Excellence and Innovation

Founded in 2002 by the Honorable Kojo Yankah, the university began as the African Institute of Journalism and Communications (AIJC), the first tertiary institution in Africa dedicated to journalism and communication studies. Over time, AUCC expanded its academic offerings, launching its School of Business in 2010. This school was later renamed the Sam E. Jonah School of Business in 2014 to honor the contributions of the renowned Ghanaian businessman.

Throughout its history, AUCB has nurtured and trained many notable professionals in Ghana’s communication, media, and business sectors. Its alumni include influential journalists, entrepreneurs, and corporate leaders who continue to shape the country’s development.

A Moment for Celebration

AUCB President, Prof. Isaac Abeku Blankson, has called on all stakeholders, including faculty, staff, alumni, and students, to join in celebrating this historic achievement. He noted that the university remains steadfast in its mission to build a legacy of academic and professional excellence.

“This accomplishment reflects the hard work and dedication of everyone who has been part of this journey. We look forward to a future of even greater achievements as we continue to empower students and make a lasting impact on society,” Prof. Blankson stated.

Opportunities for the Future

With its new status, AUCB is poised to expand its influence, offering enhanced programs that integrate cutting-edge technology, entrepreneurship, and industry-focused education. The university’s Pan-African framework also positions it to contribute meaningfully to the continent’s development by producing graduates who are prepared to drive innovation, foster collaboration, and address Africa’s unique challenges.

As the African University of Communications and Business (AUCB) begins this new chapter, it reaffirms its dedication to creating a transformative educational experience that equips students for success in an increasingly interconnected world.
