Kpong Water Transmission Breakdown Triggers Shortages in Tema and Accra

Residents of Tema and large parts of Accra are bracing for days without running water following an emergency shutdown at the Kpong Treatment Plant.
Ghana Water Ltd. (GWL) announced on Thursday, August 28, that a major raw water transmission pipeline serving the plant had been damaged, forcing operations to halt while repair works take place. The emergency exercise is expected to last three days.
As a result, water supply will be disrupted in the entire Tema Metropolis and several Accra suburbs, including Ashaiman, Gbetsele, Akatamanso, Klagon, Lashibi, Baatsonaa, Spintex, parts of East Legon, and nearby communities.
Management has advised households in affected areas to store enough water while supplies are still available. Essential service providers such as hospitals and schools have also been encouraged to contact the utility company for emergency support during the outage.
GWL assured the public that every effort was being made to complete the repairs on time.
“Water supply will be restored immediately upon completion of the repair work. We sincerely regret the inconvenience and appreciate the patience and understanding of our valued customers,” the company said in a statement.
