Ghana’s impressive campaign at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup is delivering more than excitement on the pitch, it is also generating brisk business for retailers, traders and informal vendors cashing in on soaring demand for Black Stars merchandise.

Across Accra’s bustling central business district, shops selling replica jerseys, scarves, flags and other team paraphernalia have witnessed a sharp increase in customer traffic, particularly after the Black Stars’ goalless draw against England on Tuesday.

Retailers say demand has exceeded expectations, with football fans eager to show their support as Ghana continues its quest for a place in the knockout stages.

Sammy Jersey, a retailer who specializes in football apparel, described the surge in sales as the strongest he has experienced across all of Ghana’s World Cup appearances.

“This is unprecedented compared to the previous tournaments because sales have boomed seriously. We are excited by the performance of the Black Stars and we pray they continue with this form,” he said.

The increased spending reflects how major sporting events can stimulate economic activity beyond the stadium, creating income opportunities for small businesses, street vendors and retailers.

The optimism has extended beyond the marketplaces. Streets across parts of Accra have been filled with jubilant supporters singing, dancing and celebrating the national team’s performances, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the capital.

Ghana, making its fifth FIFA World Cup appearance, opened its campaign with a 1-0 victory over Panama before earning a hard-fought 0-0 draw against England.

The Black Stars will conclude their Group campaign against Croatia on June 27, with supporters hopeful that another positive result will extend both the team’s World Cup journey and the business opportunities it has generated for local traders.
