OSP Declares Ofori-Atta Wanted Again Over Missed Deadline

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has re-declared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a wanted person effective Monday, June 2, 2025, after he failed to appear in person for questioning.

This marks a renewed escalation in the OSP’s investigation into multiple corruption-related allegations during Ofori-Atta’s time in office from 2017 to 2024, including deals involving Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), the National Cathedral project, and tax-related matters.

Ofori-Atta was previously declared a fugitive in February 2025 for failing to honour a summons but was temporarily removed from the wanted list after his legal team promised he would appear today. The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, had warned that failure to comply would trigger renewed legal action and steps toward securing an INTERPOL Red Notice.

On Monday, his lawyers informed the OSP and the Human Rights Court of a sudden deterioration in his health, submitting medical documentation and proposing a virtual interview under the Electronic Transactions Act. However, the OSP rejected the request, insisting on his physical presence and reiterating that legal counsel cannot replace personal attendance in criminal probes.

With his re-declaration as wanted, Ofori-Atta now faces possible international arrest under INTERPOL protocols, significantly limiting his freedom of movement.

Meanwhile, he continues to challenge the OSP’s actions in the Human Rights Court, with a ruling expected on June 18 on whether his initial designation as “wanted” was lawful.

The OSP says it remains committed to ensuring accountability and pursuing all legal avenues to bring suspects to justice, regardless of their political status or office held.
