Ghana’s push to become Africa’s digital hub is set to take centre stage in October when Accra hosts the 14th edition of the Africa Fintech Summit (AFTS).

The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MOCDTI) has been announced as a strategic partner for the summit, scheduled for October 8–10 at the Accra International Convention Centre. The partnership reflects Ghana’s broader ambition to lead Africa’s transition into a knowledge-driven, 24-hour digital economy.

Opportunities for Ghanaian Startups
As part of the deal, 50 percent of slots in the AFTS Alpha Expo Mini Accelerator and Pitch Competition will be reserved for Ghanaian startups. Selected companies will receive targeted support, investment opportunities and visibility before a global audience of investors, regulators and innovators.

Workshops, panel discussions and curated collaborations will also be used to amplify Ghana’s digital economy, with MOCDTI officials outlining policy reforms and opportunities for international investors.

“The future is global and Ghana is ready to lead,” said Minister Samuel Nartey George. He noted that ongoing initiatives such as the One Million Coders programme, Ghana Tech Lab and a forthcoming Innovations and Start-up Bill are designed to entrench Ghana’s role as Africa’s digital trade hub.

Global Exposure for Local Innovators
Zekarias Amsalu, Co-Founder of AFTS, said the partnership was an opportunity to highlight Ghana as a destination for digital investment. “We look forward to showcasing Ghanaian innovators and problem solvers to our global investing community,” he said, adding that live streaming will allow students across the country to follow the summit and cross-pollinate ideas.

A Platform with Impact
The three-day event is expected to attract more than 1,500 participants in person and 3,000 virtually from 65 countries. Programming will include keynotes, masterclasses, closed-door meetings, networking receptions and the Excellence in Fintech Award Ceremony.

Since its launch in 2018, AFTS has facilitated more than $300 million in funding for African fintech startups and delivers an estimated $3 million in tourism-related impact to host economies.

For Ghana, the summit comes at a pivotal moment. With digitalisation now at the heart of national development, policymakers see fintech not only as a driver of financial inclusion but also as a key catalyst for jobs, innovation and inward investment.
