Emirates Expands Global Partnerships to Drive Travel Demand and Customer Growth

Emirates is expanding its partnership network across tourism, digital travel, sports, cruise, business and financial services as the airline seeks to widen its customer base and generate new sources of travel demand across its global network.

The airline announced a series of new and expanded partnerships at Arabian Travel Market, covering markets in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

The agreements form part of a broader strategy to connect Emirates’ international network with specific customer segments, while developing targeted travel products, marketing campaigns and loyalty propositions.

For Emirates, the partnerships provide a way to deepen customer relationships beyond the traditional airline ticket, linking air travel with tourism packages, digital booking platforms, sporting events, cruise journeys, business networks and financial products.

Africa tourism market

In Africa, Emirates has signed agreements with the Mozambique National Agency for Tourism Development and Investment and the Kenya Tourism Board to support the growth of international tourism into both destinations.

The partnership with Mozambique will explore opportunities to promote the country to international travellers in key markets, supported by airline partnerships across Africa to improve connectivity.

Mozambique is seeking to build on its tourism assets, including its 2,500-kilometre coastline, beach destinations, cultural attractions, gastronomy and urban centres.

The agreement with the Kenya Tourism Board will build on existing demand for Kenya across Emirates’ African network, with both sides seeking to attract visitors from established and emerging markets.

Tourism remains an important contributor to Kenya’s economy, supporting employment and attracting millions of international visitors.

The Kenya Tourism Board has set out plans to strengthen the country’s position as a major African tourism destination through a year-round programme of sustainable and diverse experiences.

Digital platform opens access to Chinese travellers

Emirates is also using digital travel platforms to reach customers in one of the world’s largest travel markets.

The airline has signed a memorandum of understanding with Alibaba Fliggy, a major Chinese online travel agency, to strengthen their strategic relationship in China.

The partnership will include co-branded marketing campaigns and customer engagement initiatives, alongside potential integration between Emirates Skywards and Fliggy’s membership ecosystem.

The move could give Emirates additional access to Chinese consumers through a platform already embedded in the country’s digital travel market, while allowing the airline to develop more personalised offers for travellers.

Cruise partnership creates new travel products

Emirates is also seeking to capture more value from the growing intersection between air travel and cruise tourism through an expanded partnership with MSC Cruises.

The two companies have worked together for more than a decade, but their latest agreement broadens cooperation across fly-cruise distribution, air-sea products, crew travel and customer loyalty.

The companies plan to develop through-fares and open-jaw itineraries across Emirates’ network, while identifying additional gateway markets linked to MSC Cruises’ seasonal homeport strategy.

They will also explore tailored products for long-distance and repositioning cruises, allowing passengers to combine Emirates flights with one-way cruise journeys between regions.

Another area of cooperation will be the expansion of services similar to the model already operating at Port Rashid in Dubai, including terminal check-in, through-baggage handling and coordinated transfers.

The partnership will also cover crew mobility, with Emirates expected to provide dedicated fares, additional baggage allowances and specialised services for MSC seafarers.

Targeting business travellers

Emirates is simultaneously strengthening its links with business communities in the UAE.

The airline has signed agreements with the Finnish Business Council and Vietnamese Business Council, giving it direct engagement channels with Finnish and Vietnamese businesses and professionals based in the UAE.

The Finnish partnership comes ahead of the launch of Emirates’ direct Dubai-Helsinki route on October 1.

Members of the Finnish Business Council will receive exclusive Emirates benefits, while the council will facilitate engagement between the airline and its business community.

The agreement with the Vietnamese Business Council follows Emirates’ plans to increase services to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from the winter schedule.

The airline will similarly provide benefits to members of the Vietnamese business community, while gaining access to networking and engagement opportunities through the council.

The agreements give Emirates a direct route to corporate and professional customers who travel frequently between the UAE, Europe and Asia.

Sports tourism becomes another growth channel

Emirates is also looking to convert its extensive involvement in international sport into travel demand.

The airline has partnered with Cutting Edge, a travel management company specialising in international sports tourism, to develop travel packages for fans attending major sporting events.

The partnership will cover cricket, football, motorsport, golf and tennis, combining Emirates’ network of close to 140 destinations with Cutting Edge’s access to sporting events and fan communities.

The model could allow Emirates to package flights with event-related travel, giving sports fans a more integrated booking option while creating another channel through which the airline can fill seats around major international events.

Emirates Holidays targets package travel

Emirates Holidays, the airline’s tour operating business, has separately signed an agreement with the Spain Tourism Office to increase tourism from the Middle East to Spain.

The partnership will focus on destination marketing, seasonal promotions and holiday packages combining Emirates flights with accommodation, local experiences and other traveller benefits.

For Emirates Holidays, the arrangement provides an opportunity to sell a wider travel proposition rather than relying solely on air tickets, while Spain gains access to Emirates’ customer base across the Middle East.

Loyalty and banking partnership deepened

Emirates is also extending its relationship with Emirates Islamic through the renewal of their strategic partnership around the Emirates Skywards loyalty programme.

The partnership, which began in 2008, has expanded into three co-branded Emirates Skywards cards, including the Emirates Islamic Skywards Black Card, as well as a co-branded savings account, salary transfer proposition and miles exchange product.

The renewed agreement will focus on product innovation and more personalised benefits for Skywards cardholders.

The banking partnership gives Emirates another channel for customer engagement, allowing its loyalty programme to extend beyond air travel into everyday financial products.

A broader commercial strategy

Taken together, the agreements point to a broader commercial strategy in which Emirates is using its global network as a platform for partnerships across multiple industries.

Rather than relying solely on passenger bookings, the airline is building connections with tourism authorities, online travel agencies, cruise operators, business organisations, sports tourism companies and financial institutions.

The approach allows Emirates to reach customers through the channels they already use, while giving the airline and its partners opportunities to develop more targeted products around specific travel needs.

For destination authorities, the partnerships provide access to Emirates’ international customer base. For businesses such as MSC Cruises, Fliggy and Emirates Islamic, they create opportunities to integrate their products with the airline’s network and loyalty ecosystem.
