India poised for robust economic growth

As India marked its 78th Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation, emphasizing the country’s rapid economic growth and its aspirations to become one of the top three economies globally. During her speech, the President celebrated India’s progress in various sectors, attributing the nation’s success to strategic planning, the resilience of its people, and visionary leadership.

The President highlighted that India has consistently been among the fastest-growing major economies, with an average growth rate of 8% annually from 2021 to 2024. This growth has propelled India to become the world’s fifth-largest economy, with ambitions to climb further up the global economic ladder. President Murmu praised the hard work of the nation’s farmers, who have played a crucial role in ensuring food security and contributing to the country’s self-reliance in agriculture.

Infrastructure development was also a focal point of her address. The President noted the expansion of India’s roads, highways, railways, and ports, supported by strategic planning and effective institutions. The government’s efforts to promote sectors such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence have created a conducive ecosystem for startups, making India an increasingly attractive investment destination.

In the financial sector, President Murmu underscored the government’s initiatives to enhance transparency, leading to a more efficient banking system. She also highlighted the government’s push for futuristic technologies and the support provided to startups, which are expected to drive India’s economic growth in the coming years.

President Murmu further touched on the government’s commitment to social justice, with initiatives aimed at uplifting marginalized communities. Programs like the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana continue to provide support to those in need, ensuring that poverty reduction remains a priority even as the nation advances economically.

Reflecting on India’s global standing, President Murmu noted the country’s role as a voice for the Global South during its G-20 Presidency. She expressed confidence that India’s growing economic stature would enhance its influence in promoting global peace and prosperity.
