Ghana Stock Exchange sees stability in indices amid increased trading activity

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) experienced a stable trading session, with its benchmark indices remaining unchanged. The GSE Composite Index held steady at 4,348 points, while the GSE Financial Stock Index also stayed at 2,118.52 points. Market capitalization remained unchanged at 91.91 billion Cedis by the close of the session.

Despite the stability in indices, trading activity saw a significant boost, with volumes rising by 35.25%. A total of 1,849,303 shares were traded, contributing to a market turnover of 6.03 million Cedis. MTN Ghana dominated the trading session, accounting for 71.53% of the total trading volume.

However, NewGold, an exchange-traded fund, was the only decliner, edging down by 0.02% to close at 381 Cedis, 60 Pesewas.

On the currency front, the Ghanaian Cedi showed mixed performance. It depreciated by 0.11% against the US dollar, trading at 15 Cedis, 24 Pesewas per USD. Conversely, the Cedi appreciated by 0.18% against the British Pound and by 0.12% against the Euro, closing at 19 Cedis, 98 Pesewas per GBP and 16 Cedis, 83 Pesewas per EUR, according to the Bank of Ghana’s closing bank rates.
