Roy Punungwe promises growth and innovation at Old Mutual Ghana

Old Mutual Ghana has appointed Mr. Roy Punungwe as its new Group CEO, marking a significant leadership transition aimed at driving innovation and growth in the Ghanaian financial sector.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Mr. Punungwe stated, “I am honoured to take on this leadership position at Old Mutual Ghana. The Ghanaian market presents immense opportunities, and I am confident that with the dedication of our talented team, we will continue to create great value for our customers and shareholders, whilst positively impacting our community.”
With extensive experience in business growth, leadership development, and stakeholder value creation, Mr. Punungwe is well-equipped to steer Old Mutual Ghana towards new heights. Since joining Old Mutual Limited in 2015, he has held several senior roles across South Africa, Botswana, and Malawi. He previously served as the COO and CEO of Old Mutual Botswana before becoming Managing Director of the Life Assurance business in Malawi.
An accomplished actuary, Mr. Punungwe holds an MBA from Middle Tennessee State University in the USA and an undergraduate degree from the University of Waterloo in Canada. He has further honed his leadership skills through executive development programs at prestigious institutions such as Said Business School, Harvard Business School, INSEAD, and IMD. He is also a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and the Conference of Consulting Actuaries.
Outgoing CEO Mr. Tavona Biza, who has led Old Mutual Ghana with distinction for nearly six years, expressed confidence in his successor. “It has been an honour and a pleasure to lead Old Mutual Ghana. The leadership transition, effective 1 January 2025, is expected to be seamless, with Old Mutual Ghana assuring customers and stakeholders of uninterrupted service delivery.
