Calm Restored After Unrest at Hamile Border, Immigration Service Assures Public

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) says calm has been restored at the Hamile Border Post in the Upper West Region following disturbances on Saturday evening that involved some members of the local community.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Service said the incident, which occurred on September 13, 2025, was swiftly contained with the support of other security agencies.
The statement said the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, had directed a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the unrest.
“The Service appeals to the public and the Hamile community to remain calm and cooperative as the matter is thoroughly investigated. Updates will be provided in due course,” the statement signed by Assistant Commissioner of Immigration and Head of Public Affairs, M. Amoako-Atta, read.
The GIS reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s borders and maintaining public safety, stressing that it is working closely with relevant agencies to prevent a recurrence.
