iSmart Earns Highest Global Security Certification, Strengthens Position in Digital Payments

iSmart International Ghana Limited has secured the top tier of global payment security certification, a development expected to boost confidence in Ghana’s fast-growing digital payments ecosystem and enhance the company’s standing within the financial services industry.
The firm announced it has attained PCI DSS Level 1 Certification under the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, confirming full compliance with stringent international standards for safeguarding cardholder data.
Strengthening security in a growing market
The certification comes amid rapid expansion in Ghana’s digital finance space, driven by increased mobile money usage, fintech innovation and rising online transactions. This growth, however, has also heightened exposure to cybersecurity risks.
By attaining Level 1 status, iSmart joins a limited group of companies worldwide that meet the highest requirements for payment security, including advanced encryption, strict access controls, real-time monitoring and routine system testing.
Chief Executive Officer Robert Oduro described the achievement as both a validation of the company’s infrastructure and a commitment to maintaining high security standards.
“Our goal is to ensure that every transaction conducted through our platform is safe, secure and reliable,” he said.
Meeting regulatory and market demands
The milestone aligns with the tightening regulatory framework of the Bank of Ghana, which continues to strengthen oversight of payment service providers and fintech firms to protect consumers and maintain system integrity.
Analysts note that such certification is increasingly essential for firms seeking to scale operations, secure partnerships and integrate with international payment networks.
Expanding as a digital infrastructure provider
Beyond its core payments business, iSmart provides services in messaging, USSD and enterprise software, positioning itself as a key technology partner for banks, telecom companies and other fintech operators.
Its ability to design solutions suited to Africa’s digital landscape, particularly mobile money-driven systems, has been identified as a competitive strength.
The new certification is expected to further reinforce its credibility as a trusted infrastructure provider in the sector.
Positioning for growth
As cybersecurity becomes central to digital finance, firms with strong security credentials are better placed to capture emerging opportunities.
For iSmart, the PCI DSS Level 1 certification not only enhances trust but also creates a platform for expansion into new markets and partnerships.
The development reflects a broader industry shift, where robust security is increasingly seen not just as compliance, but as a critical driver of competitiveness in the digital economy.
