The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has directed the management of Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) to immediately reverse a decision to suspend the employment contracts of all staff following damage caused by recent flooding.

In a statement issued on July 1, 2026, the Ministry said it had taken note of a circular issued by GDCL announcing the temporary suspension of employment contracts for all employees pending a comprehensive assessment of the centre. The suspension was reportedly scheduled to take effect immediately.

However, the Ministry said it takes a “very strong view” of the directive and has instructed management to withdraw the decision without delay.

“All GDCL staff are to disregard the directive,” the Ministry stated.

The intervention comes at a time when many workers have already been affected by the devastating floods of June 29, which caused widespread damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure in parts of Accra.

The Ministry stressed that it stands with both its staff and employees of agencies under its supervision during the difficult period.

The development follows a visit by the Minister to the Ghana Digital Centres facility on June 30 to assess the extent of damage caused by the flooding and its impact on businesses operating within the premises.

As part of efforts to address the situation, management of the Centre has been summoned to the Ministry on July 2 for discussions on the way forward.

The Ghana Digital Centres facility serves as a major hub for technology firms, start-ups and digital businesses, making its operational continuity important to Ghana’s growing digital economy.

The Ministry’s intervention signals an attempt to balance the need for damage assessment and operational recovery with concerns over employee welfare and job security in the aftermath of the flooding disaster.
