GACL Welcomes Boost in Regional Air Connectivity

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has commended Africa World Airlines (AWA) for its strategic expansion into the West African sub-region with the launch of direct flights between Accra and Ouagadougou, set to commence on June 3, 2025. The new route will operate three times a week — on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
In a congratulatory letter addressed to AWA, the Managing Director of GACL, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, noted, “As a stakeholder in the aviation industry, GACL shares in your success and wishes you the best on this new route.”
She further emphasized that the launch of the Accra-Ouagadougou service marks a significant milestone in enhancing regional connectivity, providing business and leisure travellers with more convenient and efficient options, while deepening trade and cultural ties between Ghana and Burkina Faso.
In a related development, Uganda Airlines has successfully secured all regulatory approvals to commence operations from Accra. While official dates and flight schedules are yet to be announced, the airline’s entry will make it the 25th international carrier operating out of Kotoka International Airport.
These developments reflect growing investor confidence in Ghana’s aviation sector and reinforce GACL’s broader vision of positioning Ghana as the Preferred Aviation Hub and Leader in Airport Business in West Africa.
