GIS foils fuel smuggling at Kpoglo border
The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) Akanu Sector Command has fueled an attempted fuel smuggling operation near the Kpoglo border post, where officers seized 54 25-litre gallons of fuel suspected of being smuggled into Togo. The fuel, discovered in a Toyota Carina with Togolese registration number TG 9378 AQ, has since been tested by National Petroleum Authority (NPA) officials in Ho to confirm its composition.
The arrest took place during routine border patrols conducted by GIS officers Inspector Ebenezer Asa-Appiah, Assistant Inspector Israel Gidisu, and ICO Benjamin Prah. Their vigilance highlights the GIS’s commitment to curbing illegal activities that impact national security and economic stability.
In response to the incident, GIS officials urged border residents and the general public to avoid engaging in unlawful cross-border activities, emphasizing that such actions pose a significant threat to Ghana’s economy. The GIS has heightened patrols along both approved and unapproved border crossings to prevent further incidents and ensure that anyone caught in cross-border crimes will face strict legal consequences.
